Search recent additions, sorted by date - Google Scholar Blog

There is a nice addition to Google Scholar to help sort by date.  Enter your search term and hit enter like usual, then click the "recent additions" link on the lower left filter options. The search results will change, showing the most recently added articles at the top. You can also see when the page was added to the index, displayed in front of the Description snippet of the search results, Eg "X days ago...".

Note in the picture below the blended search results include several Google Books at the top of the results.

Chrome browser for (non-rooted) Android

I guess this makes sense, but if you rooted your Android and have been avoiding updating it because it's a pain in the arse, well you can't use the new Chrome browser ...
Official Google Blog: Introducing Chrome for Android ... now in beta and available on Android 4, ice cream sandwich.

We won't get into the reasons or how and why I know this, but those of you in this situation have two options: continue using the crappy browser that doesn't use tabs and is slow as me walking to work in the morning, or unroot your phone then upgrade and enjoy the speed and flexibility of Google Chrome browser on your Android phone.

After that, you may return your phone to its previous state.

Google deception: No drinks at the Google bar

The title of this post on Google's official blog caught my eye ...Official Google Blog: An update on the Google bar. I was hoping Google found a way to pour me a glass of my favorite whisky.

But the article goes on to indicate a little more about Google's integration strategy which I think is almost as cool and probably more useful. There's more information on Google integrating contacts and enabling sharing across products and to targeted lists in your circles.

Google Changes Algorithm to Penalize Sites with Excessive Ads

A change to the Google algorithm that will affect how websites with excessive ads are ranked. The change is intended to penalize websites that force visitors to scroll down "below the fold" to find content.

The announcement created a buzz on Google's blogs and over the web as Webmasters and SEO specialists worried whether their websites would be affected.

The change is expected to only affect 1% of all web searches. That means that only 1 time in 100 searches will you see the results shuffled from what they looked like before this change. So, Google is clearly not targeting a significant number of sites with this change.

This change is good for web users, webmasters and for Google who all benefit from high quality content on the web.
